META ADS · PRACTICAL GUIDE
Meta Pixel & Conversions API setup for Shopify
Understand your conversion signals before making campaign decisions.
What Pixel and CAPI do
The Meta Pixel sends events from the browser. Conversions API sends supported events through a server-side integration. Using both requires checking that the same customer action is not reported as two separate conversions. Neither approach creates a complete record of every customer journey or overrides consent requirements.
Start with an integration audit
Review the connected store, Meta business assets, data source, and any apps that send events. Document the current event sources before adding another integration. Multiple apps or old theme snippets can cause duplicate reporting. Confirm access ownership so the merchant retains control of their accounts.
Validate the purchase journey
Review product views, cart additions, checkout starts, and purchases using the available diagnostic tools. Check that purchase values, currency, and product identifiers match the store. When browser and server events represent the same action, validate the integration’s deduplication behavior rather than assuming it is configured correctly.
What a useful handover includes
Keep a record of the connection method, events reviewed, outstanding diagnostics, and testing date. Compare store orders with advertising reports while accounting for attribution windows, consent, time zones, and reporting delays. Event match quality is a diagnostic signal, not a revenue guarantee.
